Smooth Coat
The classic sleek look. Smooth coats are the easiest to groom, requiring just a quick wipe down. Perfect for low-maintenance owners.
Long Hair
Elegant and soft with flowing hair. They often have a milder temperament but require brushing 2-3 times a week to prevent tangles.
Wire Hair
Distinguished and spunky. They have a coarse outer coat and distinct “eyebrows.” They need occasional trimming to stay neat.

Yes, especially when raised with them! Dachshunds are playful and loyal family dogs. However, because of their long backs, children must be taught how to respect them and hold them properly (supporting both the chest and rear end) to prevent injury.
Dachshunds are highly intelligent but can be famously stubborn. Consistency and patience are key! We start potty training early, but you should expect to maintain a strict schedule and use plenty of positive reinforcement (treats!) for the first few months.
Dachshunds were originally bred as hunters, so they have a surprisingly big, deep bark for a small dog. They make excellent watchdogs and will alert you to visitors. Excessive barking can be managed with early training and “quiet” commands.
IVDD is a concern for the breed. We genetically test our parent dogs to minimize risk. As an owner, the best prevention is keeping your dog at a healthy, lean weight, using ramps for couches/beds, and preventing them from jumping off high surfaces.
